motor G7,G7
Spray Glue Box Stock Ten dedicated racers signed up for the last spray glue race of the year. Rick Elting took his first TQ points of the year with a lap of 2.791 on race power. Jason Holmes and Cliff Kendrick were next. The early leaders were Jason, Evan McKee and Sam Rackham tied with 54 after 2 heats. Evan, running on blue, then pulled ahead on the average with both Jason and Sam sitting out. Jason was back in on the red lane for heat 4 and took the lead as Evan moved to purple. Sam was back in next and took the 2nd spot on the average as Evan continued to struggle on the bottom of the racetrack. Jason would lead the rest of the way with Sam finishing 2nd. Mike Peakes from NorCal would get past Evan to take the final podium spot in heat 9 of 10. Evan would be 4th, with Alan Trujillo, Rick Elting, JB Barnett, David Aikens, Darryl Atkin and Cliff Kendrick the other finishers.
Box Stock David Aikens, the racing lawyer, picked up the 7 TQ point with a lap of 2.712. Jason Holmes and Cliff Kendrick were next. The race itself was a straight shootout between title contenders Jason Holmes and Bill Taylor. Bill started on white and led after 1 heat and moved to the sit out. Jason could not quite catch him in heat 2 and then he also went to the sit out. After both were back in, it was Bill leading by 5 laps. He would hold that lead until the final heat. Bill’s motor slowed and Jason had secured a fresh bullet for the last heat and got by Bill to win the race. Fast qualifier David Aikens ran in the 3rd spot throughout the race but was unable to mount a charge at Bill in the final heat. Darryl Atkin, Cliff Kendrick, Dale Garcia, Alan Trujillo, Mike Peakes and Jeremy Marquette were the other racers.
Cobalt 12 We had 7 racers show up and the winner of the amatuer C-12 race at this years nats, Mike Graverson was TQ with a lap of 2.172. NorCal’s Jim Flavin and Jason Holmes were next. The race started with Mike and Rich Humphrey tied after 1 heat. Rich moved into the lead in heat 2 running on the red lane. Bill Taylor then stuck his nose into the mix as he and Mike were tied for the lead, with points leader Phil Larcom now 3rd. But Phil would start popping motors in heat 5, 3 of them in fact and this would cost him the title. Rich would have his light weight lead wires short out and this would cost him 10 laps, leaving Bill leading by 4 over Mike. Then Bill would wreck his body and drop almost 20 laps to Mike. In the final heat Rich would make a furious charge at Mike by running a 70 lap heat on orange but came up one lap short of Mike. Bill held onto 3rd with Jason Holmes, Phil Larcom, Jim Flavin and Darryl Atkin trailing. One Motor Open Team Ace showed up late, but it didn’t matter. Connie got about 4 laps of practice and then TQ’d by almost 2/10’s. Randy Thompson and Mike Graverson were the 2nd and 3rd qualifiers. The race was really no better. Connie led from the start and over the last 6 heats her slow lap time was a 3.12. Was that 6 perfect heats? Mike had some early problems on the red lane in heat one but quickly recovered to move to the 2nd spot. Pat Ularte ran 3rd with Randy and Alan Trujillo dropping out. Open There were only 3 racers with cars and they decided to pass. Track Calls Jeremy Marquette showed up. Mike Peakes and Jim Flavin came down from NorCal to race with us. Why didn’t you guys bring Al?
Congratulations to all the Division 1 series champs: Spray glue and box stock, Bill Taylor C-12, G-27 and one motor open all go to Mike Graverson. All this to go along with winning the amateur C-12 race at the nats, I guess you could say Mike had himself a pretty good year. Group 7 goes to Forrest Watchers. At this years Nats, Forrest won the Senior Open race and made the Pro Main.
