This
month Buena Park invited us to come play! And as usual we had a
blast! There we 90 entries in four classes and here are the results.
Amateur 4 inch Nascar: A
huge field turned out with a total of 17 entries which means we
had to run semi's. The B semi started off with Daniel Hudson leading
the first six heats until Richard Estopellan caught him in heat
seven. Daniel would have none of that and came back and won the
B semi followed by Richard Estopellan, Jody Freund, Lars Wolfe,
Charlie Colvin, Earl Wilson, Mike Johnson, and Paul Abbey. Top four
moving to the main. Now for the A semi, we ran a nine man round
robin and it was very close between Sam Rackham, Jerry Johnson,
John Estopellan, Casey Scott all moving to the Main followed by
Alex Freund, Cliff Kendrick, Mike Griffin, Phil Phillips, and Gene
Martin. As we started out Jerry and Daniel were the leaders after
heat one. In the second heat Sam snuck in to be tied in with 68
laps. After three it was Jerry with 102, Daniel 101, Casey 100.
Very close racing all through the field. At the half way point Jerry
still held a one lap lead with Casey Scott moving into the picture
one lap back. After six heats it was Jerry, Casey, and Sam all tied
at 201. In the end Casey Scott was your winner with 271, Sam Rackham
270, Jerry Johnson with 267, John Estopellan 266, Daniel Hudson
265, then Jody Fruend, Richard Estopellan, and Lars Wolfe. Talk
about a close race from start to finish. This was awesome!
Expert 4 inch Nascar: 11
entries came to the line so we once again ran a round robin. In
the end it was Duran Trujillo winning with 290 laps, followed by
Paul Sterrett 281, Gil Rivera 280, Chris Radisich 279, then Dennis
Hill, Phil Roberson, Ira Stoker, and Jason Holmes (what happened
Daddy?).
Amateur 4.5 inch Nascar: Seven
cars competed in this race. From the start it looked as though it
would be a very close race. Richard Estopellan led after the first
heat. Daniel Hudson and Richard were tied after two, and after three
it was Daniel and Jody. By the fifth Jody lead all by himself and
held on to the end but only by one lap over Richard. Jody Freund
265, Richard Estopellan 264, Jerry Johnson 262, Daniel Hudson 261,
John Estopellan 260, Alex Freund 258, and Earl Wilson with 246.
A good race from start to finish with Jody claiming his first USRA
win! Good Job!!
Expert 4.5 inch Nascar: It's
round robin time once again! Nine entries for this race. It looked
again that Duran Trujillo was the class of the field turning 281
laps. Followed by the guy who said, "Let's race 4.5 inch Nascars!"
Paul Sterrett. Gil Rivera sneaking in for third. Mike Hudson, Chris
Radisich, Dennis Hill, Ira Stoker, Phil Roberson, and John Tore
Anderson.
Amateur GT-1: 13 entries
in this class, so were back to the round robin thing. From the start
it was Casey Scott's race to win or lose and he did his best in
winning with 297 laps. The battle for second was tight with Jody
Freund and Cliff Kendrick battling for second at 279 Jody on top.
Daniel Hudson close with 277 then Mike Johnson, Phil Phillips, Paul
Abbey, Earl Wilson, Alex Freund, Gene Martin, Jerry Johnson, Charlie
Colvin, and Dennis Rios.
Expert GT-1: Like the Am
13 cars for this field. Durran Trujillo and Mike Hudson set out
to do close battle in this race. Durran squeezing out the victory
with 324 laps. Mike Hudson 322, Roy Hood 312, Gil Rivera 310, Chris
Radisich 308, followed by Paul Sterrett, Dennis Hill, Steve Forsyth,
John Tore Anderson, Phil Roberson, Alan Ohren, Jonathan Forsyth
and my dad in last..... again! What is the problem here?!
Amateur GT-12: Started
out with a good tight race with Alex, Jerry, and Casey changing
leads in the first few heats. Alex lost a lead wire went to last
and then came back to take the lead after five heats but couldn't
hold on when he went to black and purple. Casey came out on top
for his third win of the day turning 327 laps. Jerry Johnson with
323, Alex Freund 321, Dennis Rios 311, Phil Phillips, Brian Johnson,
and Earl Wilson.
Expert GT-12 Again we had
13 cars because my dad decided to put his back in the box so we
wouldn't have to run semi's. He said it was fast, but after those
last races.... I'm not so sure. From the start to the finish this
was a crash fest with Alan Ohren running away and hiding with 353
laps. Followed by Mike Hudson with 339, a three way tie at 336 with
Roy Hood on top followed by Jason Stone and Chris Radisich, John
Tore Anderson in sixth with 331, Durran Trujillo 329, Jonathan Forsyth,
Dennis Hill, Monty Ohren, Steve Forsyth, Gil Rivera, and Mike Stuart
with problems after two minutes in the first heat.
We would like to thank Chris and
Lenore for having us and as the fields stay large we hope that the
turn marshals will stay awake as we race late into the night. Hope
to see you all at the next race at Fosters Raceway in Santa Maria.
Well I'll shut up now so you can read the rest of this newsletter,
see ya next month!
