Fosters Raceway
Santa Maria, CA March 16, 2002
The day started off with crisp clear
weather, pastries, coffee, and orange juice, in Santa Maria, California.
What hospitality these people provide! An awesome, clean facility
along with great tracks to race on. With tri tip for lunch what
more could you want? Those who didn't show you missed out big time!
Am 4 inch Nascar: With
14 entries we ran semi's to get to the main. Four move ups from
the B semi were Casey Scott, local Terry Thompson, Daniel Hudson,
and Richard Estopellan. Failing to move up were Cliff Kendrick,
Joey Hudson, and Paul Abbey. A Semi move up's were Dennis Rios,
Phil Phillips, John Estopellan, and Lars Wolfe. Not making the show
Gary Jones, Gene Martin, and Dan Wise.
It's time for the main. After one
heat Dennis Rios was on top with 48 laps, Richard, Terry, and John
were close behind. After two heats Dennis still had one on
Richard. Lars and John were tied five laps back in third. After
four heats Dennis had eight laps on Richard, who had five on Lars,
then came Phil, John, Daniel, Terry, and Casey. In the end the winner
was Dennis Rios with 383 laps, Richard Estopellan with 362, Phil
Philips coming in third with 358, followed by Lars Wolfe, John Estopellan,
Daniel Hudson, Casey Scott, and Terry Thompson. Local Dennis Rios
showed that he is the man to beat on this track.
Ex 4 inch Nascar: Ten entries
for this race, so it was time to run a round robin main event. Bill
V. started out on top after 2 heats with Roy Hood in second, and
Chris Radisich in third. After six heats Roy was on top, Chris,
Dennis Hill, and everyone else had their sit outs so it's hard to
figure out where they were on average. In the end it was Duran Trujillo
winning with 380 laps, followed by Jason Holmes 375 (how did that
happen? he's actually in 2nd place!) in third came Bill Vanderziel
with 373, beating Chris Radisich by one inch, Roy Hood fifth, followed
by Mike Hudson, Paul Sterrett, Dennis Hill, Steve Forsyth, and Gil
Rivera.
Am 4.5 inch Nascar: This
race was ran with the Experts due to lack of entries on the amateurs
part. Richard Estopellan won with 345 laps, John Estopellan with
316, and Daniel Hudson finishing in 3rd.
Ex 4.5 inch Nascar: After
one heat it was Mike Hudson, followed by Gil Rivera, Jason Holmes,
and Paul Sterrett. After four heats Paul moved to the lead, Duran
Trujillo, Mike Hudson, and Jason Holmes tied for third. After all
was said and done the Expert race winner was a first time winner:
Paul Sterrett with 369 laps, Chris Radisich made it close with 368,
Duran Trujillo battled all the way back after a rough first heat
for third with 364, Jason Holmes in 4th with 361 (see I knew his
2nd place winning streak wouldn't last), followed by Mike Hudson,
Gil Rivera, and Dennis Hill.
Am GT 1: Ten entries in
this field. Making it round robin time once again. Local Dennis
Rios started out good for the first four heats but it was Casey
Scott who was actually leading on average. The closest thing to
an Expert the Amateurs have. After all was said and done Casey Scott
pulled in first as your winner with 424 laps, followed by Dennis
Rios nine laps back in second, in third Gerrit Vanderziel, Cliff
Kendrick, Terry Thompson, Phil Phillips, Dan Wise, Paul Abbey, Gene
Martin and Daniel Hudson finishing off this race.
Ex GT 1: An eleven car
field for the Experts. With three sit outs things were hard to call
but looking at my trusty race report on lap averages after seven
heats Roy Hood looked like he was going to be the man to beat, followed
closely by Duran Turjillo. In the end it was Roy with 416, two laps
over Duran, in third came Chris Radisich with 407, fourth was Bill
Vanderziel, just feet ahead of my dad (Jason Holmes aka Mr. Prez)
at 402. Paul Sterrett, Jonathan Forsyth at 400, Mike Hudson, Steve
Forsyth, Gil Rivera, and Dennis Hill. Good close racing from third
to eighth, the top two guys kinda took off and hid.
Am GT 12: Six entries for
this class, and this was the Casey Scott Show winning by three quarters
of a heat with 461 laps. Cliff Kendrick making a good showing in
second with 424, Local Gary Jones getting the last podium spot with
388, followed by Phil Phillips, Dennis Rios, and Terry Thompson.
Ex GT 12: Eleven cars came
to the line for this race and we're running the dreaded round robin
again. For a race reporter it sure is hard to see a clear picture
running things this way... not that I have problem with all these
racers. :) After two heats Duran Turjillo was leading with Chris
Radisich, Monty Ohren, Dennis Hill close behind. After eight heats
it was Jason Stone, Mike Hudson, Roy Hood, and Monty Ohren. After
ten heats Mike Hudson put the number up to beat at 482, could anyone
do it in the last heat? In the end Roy Hood came up one lap shy
at 481, Monty Ohren in third with a good drive at 472, Then came
Chris Radisich, Jason Holmes (I'm done with the wize cracks... I
can't think of anymore), Jason Stone, Steve Forsyth, Dennis Hill,
our early leader Duran Turjillo, Jonathan Forsyth, and Bill Vanderziel.
It was great that Steve Foster allowed
us to come up and visit his establishment, we are looking for a
large turnout for the Western States Championships in September
at this raceway so plan ahead and make sure you're there! We'll
race 4 inch Nascar, and 4.5 inch Nascar on the Hillclimb and GT
1 along with GT 12 on the Paperclip. All racing should be excellent,
See ya there!!
The Prez's Kid <><
P.S. From my sources I'm hearing
that the power on the Paperclip was AWESOME! Fastest laps in the
GT 12 race were turned in, in the last two heats of the night. No
drop off this time. Closing for now, I'm just going to say... you
should go to the next race at Fosters, so you can have something
to talk about for hours on end with your sad friends who didn't
go
