The Western States,
Fosters Raceway, Santa Maria, CA, September 28th and 29th 2002
September 28th and 29th the Western
States Championships were hosted by Foster’s Raceway in Santa Maria,
CA. SoCAL USRA would like to extend a special thanks to Steve Foster
and Bill Vanderziel and all the local racers who helped with the
BBQ and preparations of the raceway. You are to be commended for
doing such an excellent job!
A note from my dad: He had a few
comments to make about the tear downs and results that you will
notice resulted in disqualification’s. At no time did he think any
racer was deliberately trying to cheat. He definitely expressed
his displeasure with the poor quality of the manufacturers of the
16D arms that he kicked out. He would hope that ProSlot and RJR
would do a better job in checking the length of their "supposed"
USRA legal arms before shipping them to raceways for purchase. This
has been a major problem since the NATS this year and hopefully
it will be corrected soon.
On to the race report.

EX G-T 12: Thirteen entries
we're gunna call this one a little bit different than normal we're
gunna use my dad's memory as faded as it may be to close out this
race as he recalls the race was very tight between two racers Roy
Hood and Greg Gilbert, doing battle from heat to heat not to far
back were Chris Radisich and Alan Ohren. On a good day their finishing
total would have been good enough for a win, but today was not a
good day you had the also rans my dad, Duran Trujillo, Jonathan
Forsyth, Jason Stone, Mike Hudson, Monty Ohren, Steve Forsyth, Paul
Sterrett and Gil Rivera. The lap totals were high and close for
your top two Greg turning 498, to hold off Roy's 496. Chris and
Alan finishing on the same lap but inches apart with 484, Duran
477, my dad 474, Jonathan 470, then Jason S., Mike, Monty, Steve,
Paul, and Gil all having numerous problems to finish with under
400 laps.
Again thanks to all that participated
in the races. The new racers that we got to meet from Downtown Don's.
A special thanks to Parma/RJR/Downtown Don's/Champion/Eagle Distributing
for the race prizes they sent and JK say's he'll send his for Las
Vegas so see you all there!
