Spray Glue G-12
With no qualifying for this class, the computer set up the lane choices for the 11 racers.

Bill Pinkston started out on the blue lane with a nice 55 lap heat while the rest of the field crashed and bashed themselves into oblivion. Bill got caught up in the destruction in heat 2, but held onto the lead on the average and then knocked his motor out in heat 3. Sam Rackham was in on red for heat 3 and so bad was the carnage that his 47 lap heat put him on top of the board. Rich (where’s my glue bottle?) Curnutte was in next and would take the lead on the average for heats 5 and 6 as Sam ran on the blue and purple lanes. Sam would return the favor and reassume the lead on black as Rich took his turn in the bottom gutters. Sam would lead to the finish with Rich surviving an attack from David (Next time I will have Ninja Stars!) Aikens. David had moved to within a lap of Rich until he crashed hard and pulled a pin through on the right front. David held onto 3rd with Bill Pinkston recovering to finish 4th only 2 laps behind David.

Group 12
We returned to the regular format with Jim Swofford leading a group of 10 racers in qualifying with a lap of 2.59. Bill Pinkston and Jason Holmes were next.

Jason lead the first heat and then threw a segment on his millenium arm in the 2nd heat allowing Wendell Smith and Rich Curnutte to lead after 2 heats. Jim then came in on red in heat 3 and immediately took over the lead on the average. After all the sitouts were done, it was Swofford up by 7 laps on Wendell and 11 on Rich. Jim finished out the race with a 13 lap win over Wendell. Jason made a nice recovery to take the final podium spot by getting past Rich in the final heat.

Pat Ularte, David Aikens, Dale Garcia, Chuck Frederick, Sam Rackham and Bill Pinkston Finished out the field.

One Motor Open
A full field of 8 signed up and again we let the computer picked the lanes.

The early leaders were Rich Curnutte, Pat Ularte and Connie Aloise. As the race started to take form, it was Connie (so what else is new?) out front followed by Rich and Pat. Connie lead from the third heat on while continuously expanding her lead. Rich held second until a bad white lane gave the spot to Pat. Rich held off Phil Larcom by 2 with Mike Graverson, Wendell Smith, Monty Ohren and Randy Thompson.

Group 7
Phil Larcom led a full field of 8 in qualifying with a lap of 1.82. Tore Anderson and Gil Gunderson were 2nd and 3rd.

Carlos was the early leader and held an 18 lap lead after 2 heats. Gil, Forrest Watchers, Phil and Tore were in a small group separated by only 5 laps. Carlos Moved to red for heat 3 his motor locked up and the replacement spun a pinion and damaged the spur gear. This resulted in a 34 lap heat and a 76 lap deficit after 3 heats. Carlos’ problems put Tore into the lead. But here comes Carlos! He won 4 of the final 5 heats and made up one spot in each of the heats to finish 3rd only 43 laps back. Forrest ran his usual steady race to take second.

Track Calls
Monty (Best Of The West) Ohren raced a glue car for the first time in many years with a loaner motor from Paul Ciccarello. Monty picked up 7th in the One Motor Open race.

Hard core glue racer Rich Curnutte ran in the spray glue race. Did you have fun Rich?

Long time scale racer Chuck Panno brought a couple of his friends from San Diego to race with us. I just hope that the carnage that was called spray glue G-12, will not deter them from coming to Kals.

New Racers!
Harley Brooks. Harley has just started racing with us on Tuesday night and has Rich Humphrey as his mentor.  This was Harley’s first USRA event.

Our new schedule calls for 4 wing car races and we dropped qualifying for the spray glue and one motor races. This was done to save time and apparently we have succeeded. We were all done racing before 10:30. So if you are sitting on a car and not racing because of the late hours, come on down to Kals and join us!
