Uncle Kals Raceway,
Monrovia, CA, June 6, 2002
Spray Glue G-12 We had
9 entries and with no qualifying for this class, it was straight
to the round robin main. Monty Ohren was lucky enough to get the
draw for the first heat sit out and would leave it to Chris Radisich
to win the first heat by 8 laps. Monty was in next and won the second
heat moving into a tie for the lead with Chris, who was now in the
sitout. Monty took over the lead for good in the next heat running
on the green lane. Chris was able to stay close until heat 5 when
Monty put 6 laps on him. Monty just kept adding to his lead after
that. As Chris was beginning to lose laps to the leader, Lin Hammond
and David Aikens were making a run on him David would knock the
motor out in his final heat and Lin came up short. Monty wins with
Chris 2nd and Lin 3rd. Jimmy Barnett, Bob Maxwell, David Aikens,
Evan McKee, Earl Wilson and Darryl Atkin were the other racers.
G-12 A bit of glue and
we were off to demolition land. Pat Ularte picked up the TQ points
with a 3.01. Lin Hammond and Dale Garcia were next. Lin Hammond
won the 1st heat followed closely by the whole field. Pat moved
into the lead in heat 2 and held a 5-lap lead on Dale going to orange
in heat 5. Pat suffered with glue in the kink and gave up 14 laps
and the lead to Dale. Dale moved to orange next and instead of gluing
it, he wiped it and was the first racer into the 40’s on the qualifying
lane. It was now a race. Could Pat catch Dale? Nope, Dale holds
on to win his first USRA race. Pat picked up 2nd with Lin Hammond
taking the final podium spot. Chris Radisich, David Aikens, Darryl
Atkin and Jason Holmes rounded out the field.
G-27 There were only 2,
but they wanted to run them, so here we go. Darryl Atkin was TQ.
Pat Ularte won wire to wire.
One Motor Open Pat Ularte
was the early leader on blue with Phil Larcom and Darryl Atkin 3
laps back. Monty made a big move in heat 2 and moved to the lead
as Pat suffered on purple. After a really slow start, Jason made
a big move running by himself on green and won the heat by 14 laps.
This would put him into a tie with Monty for the lead. Pat was now
off the bottom gutters and was able to run down Jason and go back
into 2nd . Pat was able to make up 16 laps on Monty over the final
3 heats. Unfortunately, he was 26 laps behind Monty when he started
his run. Give Monty his second win of the day with Pat 2nd and Jason
3rd. Phil Larcom and Darryl Atkin were the other racers.
Track Calls Congratulations
to Dale Garcia on his first USRA win. Dale watched as the whole
field suffered with too much glue in the wrong places on orange.
When he ran on that lane, he wiped it up and this call would allow
him to win the race. Good call, Dale!
Monty won the One Motor race here
back in Feb. With next month’s race on a King Cobra, another driver’s
track, can Monty win again?
