SoCal USRA Scale Race #10 October 25th 2003 Foster's Raceway Santa Maria Ca. Another of Socal USRA's favorite places to race, Foster's, or TotyTech Raceway in Santa Maria, California's Central Coast area is always a treat. Just the drive to the raceway, up through he winding roads with the smell of the salt air get's racers pumped up to do battle on Foster's fine tracks. Raceway Manager Bill Vanderzeil had the power system sorted out and we were rewarded with some of the cleanest, snappiest power seen in years. Amateur 4" Nascar on the Paperclip track saw 23 entries and a big double round robin. Arizona's Jerry Johnson murdered em with a twelve lap win with Daniel Hudson barely edging Jimmy Ross for second. Local fast guy Dennis Rios was fourth. Colin Herzig was fifth and Terry Thompson sixth. Heath Miller finished seventh, Alex Freund eighth and Joey Hudson ninth. T.J. Albu came in tenth with Earl Wilson eleventh while "Big Brian" "badabinged" his way home in eleventh with Tim Peck thirteenth. "Uncle Phil" Phillips was off his usual pace for fourteenth with Ernie Funez, who started strong but ran into trouble fifteenth. Newsletter Printer Paul Abbey, Andrew Ross, Robert Park, James Grinstead, Gene Martin, Zack Grinstead, Bob Abbey and Tim Hould filled out the fielld. Expert 4" looked like it would be a battle between Mike Hudson and Chris Radisich untill Duran Trujillo set high heat of the race on Blue and Yellow and put ten laps on Mike and Chris who were having quite a battle untill mike suffered a bad heat on purple and gave up second to Chris. Steve Forsyth was only one back of Hudson for fourth with Paul Sterrett fifth, Bill V. sixth and the soon to be retired Gil Rivera seventh. Amateur 4.5" Nascar drew 10 entries for a single round robin. Jerry Johnson was a good quarter second faster than anyone else on the track as he waltzed away to thirteen lap win with Jimmy Ross barely edging Tim Peck for second. Andrew Ross was fourth, Robert Park fifth, "Hurricane" Earl sixth, Alex Freund seventh and Phil Phillips again struggled in eigth. Paul Abbey and Daniel Hudson made it an even ten. Expert 4.5" was another win for Duran as he averaged a little more than a lap a heat better than the competition. The race for second was won by Paul Starrett by two over Mike Hudson as Radisich had to settle for fourth. Gil Rivera was fifth and Jonathan Forsyth sixth. Fifteen GT-1s filled the Amateur field and Jerry Johnson had his eye on a sweep. Jerry might have pulled it off had it not been for poor heats on red and orange and the consistent driving of Dennis Rios. Dennis took the win by three with Jerry second, Daaniel and Joey Hudson finished third and fourth respectivly with Jimmy Ross barely edging Gary Jones for fifth. Alex Freund was seventh, Phil Phillips eigth, Colin Herzig nineth, "Big Brian" tenth, T.J. eleventh and followed by Terry Thompson, Tim Hould, Paul Abbey and Bob Abbey. Expert GT-1 was a great battle between Duran and Radisich with Chris barely edging the BP Ace by sections with Roy Hood two back in third. Mike Hudson finished fourth, Casey Scott was fast but suffered problems and ended up fifth. Paul Strrett got Jonathan Forsyth by one for sixth as Bill V and Steve Forsyth filled out the main. Amateur GT-12 has a real battle going in the points so every race counts and Jerry Johnson asserted himself with a four lap win over Colin Herzig, with Dennis Rios two more back in third. Phil Phillips took fourth after finding the faster cars more to his liking on the Paperclip with Terry Thompson fifth, Tim Hould sixth, Joey Hudson seventh, T.J. and "Big Brian" eighth and nineth, Gary Jone tenth and the father son duo of Paul and Bob Abbey eleventh and twelth. Expert GT-12 is always a great race on the Paperclip and anything can happen. Racers have been saying for some time that Monty "BOW" Ohren was due for a scale win and now was as good a time as any as Monty is AWESOME on Paperclip tracks. Monty put in some ponies and ran away and hid with a 13 lap spankin' of all the fast guys. Roy Hood, another seventies racer set fast time with the only sub 2.6 lap and took second. Youth was served with Jonathan Forsyth taking a well earned podium finish for third. Casey scott was fourth, Alan Ohren fifth, Steve Forsyth sixth, Jason Stone seventh, Radisich eigth and Pat Ularte ninth. See you all at Green Flag for the finale!
