Round 6 - June 5th 2004 - Buena Park Raceway

Buena Park Raceway Buena Park, CA June 5, 2004

Spray Glue G-12
The first race of the day was for the spray glue crowd and we had 12 racers sign up for the race.

After all the racers were in and had a chance to run a few heats, it was Adam Kirchhoffer leading ahead of Monty and Chris Radisich. As these 3 racers stated moving to the bottom gutters, the race started to come back together. The race would enter the final stages with Bill Taylor just sections ahead of Chris, Adam, Monty and BP regular Even McKee on the average. Bill held on to take the win ahead of Chris, with Adam taking his first podium finish. Monty would be 4th ahead of Cliff Kendrick, Rich Curnutte, Evan McKee, David Menefee, JB Barnett, Nick Richardson, Joe Lisciandro and Al Bruin.

Group-12
We had another 12 racers turn in cars for the glue race and after the computer picked the lanes, we were off and racin'.

Jim Swofford started on yellow, laid down the big numbers we all expect of Jim and that was all there was. The rest of us were racing for 2nd. Bill Taylor and Rich Curnutte had a racelong tussle for 2nd with Rich finally prevailing. Bill Pinkston lost a motor in the first heat and spent the rest of the race making up laps and finally getting back to 4th ahead of Joe Lisciandro, Rick Elting, Dale Garcia, Chris Radisich, David Menefee, Adam Friedman, Art Richardson and Cliff Kendrick.

Cobalt 12
We had the biggest turnout of the year for this class with 7 entries.

Pat Ularte was your early leader, leading by 6 laps after just 2 heats. As Pat moved to the top of the racetrack, Rich Humphrey moved into contention and finally took the lead in heat 4. Rich led the rest of the way with Phil Larcom taking 2nd and Pat dropping to 3rd. Newcomer Adam Friedman took 4th ahead of Gary Mayeda, Mike Delgadillo and Brian Struck.

One Motor Open
We had another nice turnout of 9 racers moving through tech inspection.

Pat Ularte and Rich Curnutte were the early leaders with Rich taking a small lead on the average by heat 3. Scott Fisher came in from Vegas and was the last sitout. In the 4th heat Scott was beginning to put pressure on Pat and in heat 8 he slipped past both Pat and Richard as Pat was in his first sitout and Rich was slow on red.  Scott only ran a 56 in heat 9 and dropped from contention leaving it to Phil and Rich to race for the win. Rich started the final heat only 2 laps up on Pat, with Pat running on red and Rich on blue. Rich added 2 laps to his lead and took the win ticket over Pat with Bill Pinkston only 5 laps behind Pat. Tore picked up 4th ahead of Scott Fisher, Phil Larcom, Scott Salzburg from PCH, Rick Elting and Robert Park.

Group-7
We had 7 racers sign up for this race.

Pat Ularte thumped them hard in the first 2 heats, leading by 17 laps over Scott Fisher. Pat started running into problems and was quickly off the leader board. Gil Gunderson picked up the lead in heat 5 and would lead into the late stages of the race ahead of Forrest Watchers and Scott. Going into the last heat Gil had 7 laps on Forrest, on black and 13 laps on Scott running on the white lane. It looked like Gil had it, but about half way his car started to mis-handle and launch on the straightaway. A quick examination revealed that one of the front floaters had pulled out of the chassis. Scott was closing rapidly and with about 30 seconds left in the race, he swept past Gil and into the lead. Scott wins by 2 laps over Gil and 5 over Forrest. Randy Thompson took 4th ahead of Rich Curnutte, Scott Salzburg and Pat Ularte.
