2005 Wing Round 5 - May 6/7 Buena Park Raceway, CA

Buena Park Raceway Buena Park, CA May 6/7, 2005

Spray Glue 12
Local scale racer Jonathon Forsyth was the early leader with Kenny Richins close behind. Jonathon was unable to keep Kenny behind him and eventually Kenny slipped past and into the lead. But was it? Post race weigh in showed Kenny to be light. It seems he lost a piece of lead at some point. An inspection of the track found it and Kenny was, unfortunately, relegated to 8th. Jonathon was moved into the winner’s position followed by Rick Elting, Josh Bauer, Adam Kirchhoffer, Steve Forsyth, Albert Bruin and Evan McKee.

Group 12
The early leaders were Richard Curnutte and Dale Garcia. Both of these racers would have problems on red and drop down the order. Dale would not recover, but Richard started shuffling motors in and out of his car and making up laps and finally moved back into the lead position. Points contenders Mickey Johnston and Bill Taylor both had problems and had to settle for 2nd and 3rd. Adam Kirchhoffer was 4th ahead of Dale Garcia, Jason Holmes, Jim Swofford, Kenny Richins and Bob Johannis.

Group 27
Mike Graversen grabbed the early lead and would take an easy victory as everybody else broke down and had problems. Bill Brown was the best of the survivors with Jim Swofford taking 3rd. Kenny Richins, Al Chuck, Adam Kirchhoffer and Rich Curnutte took the lesser placings.

One Motor Semi Pro
Bryan Struck led the first 4 heats ahead of Bill Taylor and Adam Friedman. In the 5th heat Bryan decided to start testing to see how good his pit crew was by knocking the motor out several times over the next few heats and dropped to 3rd. These misadventures let Bill into the lead and he would lead the rest of the way followed by Adam with Bryan hanging onto his 3rd. Kenny Richins, Rick Elting and Josh Bauer followed with various problems

One Motor Pro
John Tore Andersen led over Robert Park by 1 lap after the first heat. Heat 2 saw Tore’s long slow descent into oblivion and Robert moved into the lead. Robert led through the end of 4 when Mike Graversen took over. Heat 6 saw the real carnage, for most of that heat there were only 3 racers on the track. Jim Swofford took over in heat 7 and he lead to the finish. Mike held on to take 2nd with Mickey Johnston taking the final podium spot.

Pro
Forrest Watchers took the early lead followed very closely by Randy Thompson. In heat 3 Randy powered past Forrest and into 1st. In the next heat Forrest ran a real nice 147 laps on red, but was unable to make much headway on Randy now down on blue. Forrest decided it was time for a motor change that, unfortunately, only ran 121 laps before letting the smoke out allowing Randy to add another 17 laps to his lead while running on purple. Forrest was back in on blue and moved back into the lead as Randy could only muster 104 laps on black. Forrest finished with 2 good heats on the bottom gutters and took the win ticket with 1095 laps. Randy took 2nd and Mike Graversen took 3rd.
