Scale Rule Changes and Clarifications
for 2003
With the new 2003 National USRA rules
book not yet published there is some confusion about some of the
new products available for 2003. With this in mind the scale rules
committee has made the following decisions about the 2003 racing
:
4” NASCAR Bodies—The new 2003 National Spec NASCAR bodies will
be legal in SoCal Racing, along with all the bodies run in 2002.
All bodies will need an 1/8” front bumper and maximum rear spoiler
height measured from the tech block to the top of the spoiler with
the car sitting on a tech block (car must have legal 1/16” clearance)
will be 1 3/8”. There will be no roof height measurement taken.
Kelly 16D Setups—The new Kelly 16D setups will be legal for
EXPERT DRIVERS ONLY in 2003. Should the national USRA revoke their
approval, the rules committee may revoke the Expert class approval.
Experts are reminded that magnets, endbells and hardware may not
be interchanged in the 16D class (apart from Mura hardware is legal),
and that magnets may not be shimmed, and please check to ensure
the magnets meet the minimum dimensions. Grinding on the magnets
to get them to fit is not a USRA approved modification, so be warned,
it may be illegal.
Amateur C Can Motors—Amateurs MAY NOT mix and match C
can components from different manufacturers.
Expert C Can Motors—Experts CAN mix and match C Can Components
from different manufacturers.
4.5” NASCAR Bodies—For the start of 2003 the 4.5” NASCAR Bodies
WILL NOT CHANGE from 2002 ie. Only the Champion
bodies are legal. Dimensions etc remain as in 2002.
4.5” NASCAR—All cars running in this championship MUST run
SLIXX Decals. At least the major sponsor decals must be present
on the car, along with the side and roof numbers. Paul Sterrett
(or appointed substitute) will be the sole judge of body legality.
4" Chassis NASCAR/GT 1 - The Parma Flexi 4, Mossetti, Gambler and Stainless JK chassis
are legal for 2003 SoCal racing. Interchanging of pans within a
manufacturers range is legal, however please remember you may not
modify chassis parts to make them fit if they do not.
Big 16D Arms - The Big Bruiser “large” diameter 16D arms are legal for both
amatuers and experts in SoCal racing.
Entry Fees - The entry fees are unchanged for 2003. Member entry fees are
$16.00 per class. Non Member fees will be $18.00 per class. For
2003 a non-member will no longer need a day license.
GT 1 Bodies - The back of GT 1 bodies may now be cut out. The
sides of the body must remain intact all the way down to the cutline,
and at the back some material must be maintained at each side of
the cut out. The cutting can be done the same as has been std practice
for GT 12 bodies in recent years.
