SOCAL RACE FORMATS FOR 2005 SEASON

The rules that SoCal USRA racing follow are the National USRA rules, using the 2004 National USRA rulebook as the base. The rules below are specific to SoCal racing, and override rules found in the National USRA Rulebook if there is a conflict.


 

SOCAL USRA SCALE RACING FORMATS FOR 2005

2005 SCALE RACING FORMAT
There were a number of proposals presented and voted on at the Annual Meeting. The Scale Committee then met on Dec 18 to finalise the 2005 scale race program. Full details of the decisions reached will be published soon, but here is the format basics for 2005. Note some of the initial vote results from the meeting were either overturned on a recount, or by the scale committee.

  • Scale racing retains all classes as in 2004 4", 4.5", GT 1 and GT 12. These classes will all run on SATURDAY ONLY
  • A GTP class will be added at all or selected rounds to be run on FRIDAY night. To be finalised
  • SoCal rule and product exceptions will stay the same as in 2004 IE ball bearings in C cans stay (can end only), non usra approved parts remain legal, champion 4.5" bodies remain legal
  • There will be one 11 round points series in 2005, the same as 2004
  • There will be an experts 4.5" Stockcar on Saturdays
  • There will be a scale race in April 2005
  • Teardowns will be at the descression of the tech director
  • Western States points will be 1.5 times not 2 times as in 2004
  • 4" bodies will be only 2004 and 2005 Nationally approved bodies (2004 list plus Parma 05 Taurus). The older Parma bodies are NOT LEGAL for 2005
  • Amateur, Advanced and Expert divisions all stay with their own races
  • Lane change time remains at 2 minutes unrestricted
  • Cars may not be worked on during any track calls
  • Western States Points MAY NOT BE DROPPED
  • Number of series drops remains at two
  • There will be qualifying at the Western States
  • Cars will be moved from tech to the line by SoCal officials. Racers will not get their cars between tech and the start of the race.
  • Cars failing tech will have five minutes past the end of tech to be re-teched. Anyone failing re-tech will not get their car back until the start of their first heat, when repairs can be carried out under racing conditions.

Rule updates that apply to SoCal for 2005

  • Magnets may be held in with any glue for both C and D Cans setups
  • There is no minimum airgap for C Can Motors
  • C Can magnets may be honed
  • New legal parts : Parma 05 Taurus 4", Proslot FX 16D setup, JK 4.5" Cheetah Chassis, Cahoza Setups, new Koford Can, BOW Armatures. (note this is not a complete list)
  • All classes must use a painted 3d vacuum formed interior ie. no paper or flat type drivers in any class.

Notes from 2005 SoCal Tech Director Bill Vanderziel

  • Cheetah 7 4" pans may not be reversed
  • Front wheels will not be required on GT 12 cars for socal races, but the wheelwell clear cutout rule is enforced.
